Council extends Cornerstone Church lease at recreation center for six months

The city authorized a six‑month extension of the existing lease with Cornerstone Church, which has leased the downstairs of the recreation center since 2011, to provide time for market assessment and updated lease language. Parks Director Jeff Osmick told council staff and legal counsel are updating the old lease terms and that the monthly revenue helps support recreation programs.
Council discussion included a question about the space’s square footage (staff did not have the figure on hand) and a request for follow‑up information about long‑term space needs for the North Kitsap Recovery Resource Center and other tenants. The motion to authorize the mayor to sign the presented lease extension carried on a roll call vote.
