The district proposed a 14‑day model with six hours of instruction per day — 14 days × 6 hours = 84 hours — which staff said meets or exceeds the instructional hours of a traditional 20‑day model.
The public hearing on the waiver opened at 7:51 p.m.; no members of the public spoke on the request. The district cited California Education Code sections 33050–33053 and California Code of Regulations, Title 5, section 3043(d) during the presentation. Superintendent Richard Cordero presented the proposal and explained the time‑equivalency approach as a way to reduce days while preserving total instruction time for students receiving special education services.
Trustee Ms. Dominguez moved to approve the ESY waiver and Trustee Ms. Owl seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The board did not record additional conditions in the motion. District staff will implement the approved 14‑day ESY schedule for eligible students for 2025–26; specific schedules and school‑level deployment were listed as to be determined by staff.
