Marshal reports 425 calls last year; public works details winter maintenance and ice checks

The marshal reported year-end activity and staffing updates: a slim December with 19 calls for service, reserve officers contributing 17 hours, and approximately 425 calls for service last year, of which about 170 were traffic stops. The marshal also reported conducting mandated state training for all marshal's office staff and that a full sheriff's background check for a prospective hire remains outstanding.
Public works manager Dustin McClain reported four inches of snow from a recent storm (bringing the winter total to about 33 inches), equipment maintenance including new leaf springs and dually tires on the dump truck, shop cleanup and ongoing CDL training for staff. McClain said he will begin ice-depth checks at the lake and prepare for the ice-skating season, and trustees agreed to allow split ice-fishing similarly to last year.
Trustees asked questions about ice conditions and about timelines for the pending background check for the marshal's candidate; staff said they are awaiting the sheriff's department report and will notify trustees when it is returned.
