Board approves Skynet art installation in Gazebo Park for summer–fall 2025

The board approved a special-event permit for a Green Box Skynet art installation in Gazebo Park, scheduled to be installed in early June and deinstalled in late October 2025.
Applicant Jesse Stroop described the project as "a mylar net that's suspended over the park," noting the team would use an arborist to attach the majority of the piece to existing trees and would need to install an engineered radio tower only at one high point near the town's Christmas tree; Stroop said lighting is still to be determined but, if used, would be low-voltage LED timed with park hours. Trustee King asked about lighting and the mayor confirmed color choices had been requested from the artist to avoid resembling the rainbow flag. Trustees moved, seconded and approved the permit by voice vote.
The project materials and a short video were included in the meeting packet and shown to trustees during the presentation. The applicant said the Green Box program is focusing on Colorado artists this year and that the piece has been installed in other locales; staff indicated any required engineering would be coordinated with an engineer in Colorado Springs as part of the permit conditions.
