Melanie Smoot sworn in as Jefferson County clerk after central committee recommendation

The board moved to appoint Melanie Smoot to fill the vacated Jefferson County clerk position after the Republican central committee recommended her. A commissioner moved to appoint and another seconded; the motion was carried by roll call and the board arranged for the oath.
Judge Belknap administered the oath and Melanie Smoot was sworn in as county clerk. After taking the oath, Smoot addressed the board: "I'm excited to come. The 5 years that I spent here at the county previously were the best years of my entire career... I'm excited to bring all that knowledge and ... to make this office and these people in the clerk's office work well and be happy as they work," she said. Commissioners welcomed her and proceeded with remaining agenda items.
