Nonprofit proposes supervised dive park at county lake for veterans, sheriff training

Representatives from Divers with Valor asked the Jefferson County Board to approve a memorandum of understanding with the county parks department to create a supervised dive area at the county lake for training and outreach. Warren Squire, speaking for the group, described the program’s focus on law-enforcement and first-responder well-being through scuba-based mental-wellness activities and skills training.
A Divers with Valor spokesperson explained the nonprofit’s goals and safety approach and said there would be no direct cost to Parks & Rec for equipment placement; the group plans to rope off a small area during events, store equipment off-season and coordinate instruction with a for-profit partner if certification courses are offered. Commissioners asked that county legal staff review the proposed agreement before final execution; there was broad informal support but no final vote to sign the agreement was taken at this meeting.
"It's a support organization for veterans, firefighters, EMTs, and law enforcement," a Divers representative said while explaining program aims.
