Martin Jones and Orrin Squires presented a proposed Memorandum of Understanding between Jefferson County Parks & Recreation and Divers With Valor to develop recreational diving opportunities and use "The Lake" for training and community events in support of veterans and first responders. The board asked for legal review before taking any action and did not approve the MOU at the meeting.
Jones also provided a parks update: participation in county recreation programs increased from about 400 participants last year to 471 this year, and he said preparations were complete for the Freedom Celebration on June 27, including entertainment, sponsors and a fireworks display.
Why it matters: the proposal could enable veteran- and first-responder-focused programs at a county facility and affect park scheduling and liability; legal review is required before the board will consider formal approval.
