Department reports grants totaling $18,500, new gear and six new hires

Chief Gerry Smith reported to the Board of Fire Engineers that the department received multiple grants in June, including a SAFE grant for seniors and students for $4,000, a DFS grant approved for 1,800 feet of forestry hose for $3,500, and a grant for new fire gear for $11,000. He noted that six new hires began orientation during the month.
Smith also described community and outreach activities: the department brought an engine and ambulance to a 'Touch-a-Truck' event at the library, responded to a Med-flight incident, staffed DS High School graduation and Chickering School field day details, and placed 4th of July bunting on the Townhouse. The permit fee changes implemented in June and the new gear grant were presented as part of the department’s efforts to maintain readiness.
