Fire board reviews June response numbers and firefighter participation

Chief Gerry Smith presented the department’s June operations report to the Board of Fire Engineers on July 6, 2026, saying, "There were 26 Fire responses (179 YTD) and 40 Ambulance responses (217 YTD)." Smith described uneven individual participation: six firefighters did not respond to any calls in June, three responded to 10% or less of calls, two responded to 11%–29% of calls, and five responded to 30% or more. He reported six officers responded, four at less than 49% and two at more than 50% of calls; average personnel per call was 5.18. The board discussed the staffing figures as part of regular operational oversight but took no formal staffing action at the meeting.
