Billings County calls redistricting board and appoints Julie Reis ahead of July 2 deadline

Facing a statutory July 2 deadline after certification of election results that expanded the commission from three to five members, the Billings County Commission unanimously voted on June 29 to call the redistricting board to create five districts.
The county attorney reviewed requirements under NDCC Chapter 11, including use of 2020 Census data, a target population of about 190 residents per district (±10%), the need for compact and contiguous districts, and the administrative steps if the commission cannot adopt a plan. The commission established required redistricting-board membership per statute and appointed Julie Reis to the board by unanimous vote.
Earlier special sessions on June 22 and June 25 reviewed draft maps, discussed township splits and candidate residency concerns, and set courthouse operating changes for a presidential-visit week. The appointment starts the statutory process for producing a five-district map or convening the redistricting board to finish the work in time for election deadlines.
