Rich Bauer told the committee he is coordinating with the La Crosse County Household Hazardous Material Program to explore a more self-collection approach for the 2027 Clean Sweep event. He said the change could reduce costs compared with hiring a contracted collection crew but would require assistance from volunteers or local groups to replace some contracted crew functions.
Bauer said more details will be provided at the committee’s fall meeting and that staff will continue planning with La Crosse County. "If this work could reduce the amount spent on the collection compared to using a contracted company," Bauer said, "this would require assistance from some individuals or groups to replace the contracted crew."
