Trustees adopted Resolution No. 2026-51 confirming the Board's intent to reduce the Town's property tax by an amount equivalent to the Chaffee County Fire Protection District (CCFPD) tax if voters approve inclusion at the Nov. 3, 2026 election and a District Court approves the inclusion. Town Administrator Brian Berger explained the arrangement of the Town receiving fire protection services from the CCFPD since May 2021 under an intergovernmental agreement and that the proposed change would shift payment from the General Fund to a direct property tax paid to the District.
Berger detailed that reducing the Town’s property tax upon inclusion would reset the base revenue used for TABOR growth calculations and that statutory growth limits would be calculated thereafter on the adjusted base. Trustees voted to confirm the intent to reduce the Town property tax beginning with the 2027 property tax year (MOTION NO. 05).
