Jefferson County board: HVAC permitting in Rigby could begin June 1

John Senn, Jefferson County building official, told the Building Board of Appeals on April 15 that the county expects to start issuing HVAC permits in the City of Rigby as soon as June 1.
"I am waiting on Rigby City Council to approve their minutes tomorrow, then once we get the City approval I will send that 30-day notice off to the State so I think the latest we'll be starting HVAC within the city of Rigby will be June 1st," Senn said. Chairman Michael Clark clarified that hydronics are typically handled by the State on the plumbing side.
Milton Ollerton, the county planning and zoning administrator, said staff has approved a new permit type and fee structure for HVAC work and is creating the permit in the county's permitting system. "The cost will be $100 (permit fee) + 15 (plan review fee) + $30 (tech fee) and $30 (GIS fee)," Ollerton said. Commissioners and staff also discussed how Cityworks currently requires separate permit types and that consolidation into a combined permit is unlikely in the near term.
The board did not take a formal vote on the HVAC rollout at the workshop. Senn said the county has a hearing date set in May for related ordinance updates and that, after county actions and the required notice period to the State, staff will work with cities to align local ordinances and fee schedules.
