Price County’s Land Use/UW-Extension Committee postponed a decision on a conditional use permit for a proposed Janak & Sons gravel pit at N9510 E. Solberg Lake Road following a lengthy public hearing on May 21, 2026.
The public hearing drew numerous written objections and multiple Town of Worcester residents who spoke in opposition. Brent Janak, owner of Janak & Sons, addressed the committee in support of the permit and cited Wisconsin Act 67 (2017), which limits outright denial of conditional use permits absent substantial, measurable evidence. Committee members agreed they needed more time to review the information and consider measurable permit conditions. Motion Drobnik/Ulrich to postpone the decision to the June meeting carried.
The committee also opened and later postponed action on a separate reclamation plan tied to the same gravel pit. Motion Drobnik/Erickson to postpone the reclamation plan decision to June carried; members discussed contacting the Town of Worcester for additional input before taking final action. The committee scheduled an additional zoning-only meeting for June 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. to continue zoning items.
