St. Bernard adopts ordinance allowing donations of pet food, toys and supplies

The St. Bernard Parish Council unanimously adopted an ordinance July 21 to add Section 4-26 to Chapter 4 (Animals and Fowl), authorizing donations of pet food, toys and other pet supplies to the parish's code of ordinances. Councilmember Ryan Randall moved an amendment to Summary No. 4368; after discussion the amended ordinance (SBPC #2746-07-26) passed with all present voting YEA and Council Chair Fred Everhardt casting his vote as YEA (Councilmember Cindi Meyer was absent).
The minutes note there were no public speakers for or against the item. The record also shows that during public recognition, Tammy Martinez submitted a jump drive containing tax documents for Friends of the Animal Shelter and requested formal council action; the Council entered those materials into the official record. "No one appeared to speak for or against this item," the published minutes state; the council nevertheless amended the language before adoption.
