DLNR parks official: state parks are just one subset of destinations in DMAPs

Alan Carpenter, acting administrator for the Division of State Parks, described his work on Destination Management Action Planning (DMAP) for Kauai and said state parks are only a subset of the destinations DMAPs cover. "We've been working so I've been on the DMAP committee for Kauai...and many of our state parks are destinations," Carpenter said, noting there are many other destination assets beyond DLNR control.
Carpenter suggested DLNR's role is important but limited to its jurisdictional assets and that broader destination management requires coordination among agencies and stakeholders. His description supported HTA's point that DMAPs involve multiple agencies and that HTA's stakeholder role includes prioritizing destinations that are not solely DLNR properties.
