Recreation Commission urges reinvesting timber-harvest proceeds into trail improvements on county parcel

Katie Gruenberg, Manistee County planning director, presented a letter from the Manistee County Recreation Commission about a planned timber harvest on county-owned land (parcel 02-014-125-01 on 11 Mile Road in Bear Lake Township). The Commission proposes that proceeds from the timber sale be reinvested into the same parcel to fund on-site recreational improvements, including development of a low-impact loop trail and other park enhancements.
Gruenberg described sustainability and development challenges and said the Recreation Commission hopes to partner with local municipalities and friends groups while the County acts as facilitator. The committee voted to recommend the full Board review the Recreation Commission information. The letter and supporting details are included in the meeting packet as Appendix C.
