County accepts $29,409.86 credit on Cove Road Bridge, updates Gentry Lane schedule

The Washington County Road and Bridge and Solid Waste Supervisor Jerod Odoms told commissioners July 13 that Change Order #5 on the Cove Road Bridge project reflects inspection shortfalls against contract upper-spec thresholds and will produce a contractor credit of $29,409.86 to the county. The Board approved the change order (motion carried) (SEG 031-032).
Odoms provided operational updates: chip-seal preparation continues with Dura Patcher work scheduled for roads chosen for next year's chip seal; once that ends, the Dura Patcher will shift to pothole and asphalt patching. He said full deployment of heavy equipment (two excavators and the D8 dozer) to the Gentry Lane project cannot occur until chip-seal work completes because those assets are needed for crusher operations, though he would shift priorities if directed by the Board. Odoms said the project engineer meeting is scheduled, the mylar should be ready for signature within a week, and temporary survey pins are in place; he noted cooperation from adjacent landowners including the Chandlers and Terry Moye (SEGS 034-038).
On environmental concerns, Commissioner Nate Marvin raised constituent reports of odors and flies near the county landfill. Odoms and Marvin said the odors appear to originate from the City of Weiser's sewage sludge drying beds on adjacent state property, and Odoms noted the Department of Environmental Quality assumed oversight earlier in the month (SEG 039).
