Board rejects $1.20/hour wage increase for treasury administrative assistant after debate

Trustees debated whether the increase should have been included in the earlier merit pool and whether the staff member had completed required certification. A board member who raised process concerns said the additional pay request "would generate an increase close to 10% for that position," and argued the board should wait until the staff member completed certification or until the promotion to deputy (contingent on a retirement) is certain. Supporters, including the treasurer, said the employee had been performing the duties, was completing municipal treasurer certification next month and that the adjustment reflected past coverage and hours worked.
On a roll-call vote the motion did not pass: the transcript records the vote as four no's and three yes's. The board did not adopt the wage amendment; staff said a formal budget amendment process will be required to implement any future change.
