Councilmember Brian reported from a regional transportation commission meeting that Caltrans plans a significant resurfacing and related project on I‑5 between Dunsmuir and Sims beginning at the end of this year or in early next year, and he advised the community to prepare for three years of traffic impacts.
"There will be a massive resurfacing and medium project going on between Dunsmuir and Sims starting, I believe at the end of this year, beginning of next year," Brian said, warning that the work could cause backups through town and asking Caltrans to brief council nearer to the start date. He also requested that Caltrans address cleanup under a local bridge, which councilmembers described as an unsightly area.
Separately, staff reported sloughing on the road into Scarlet Way and said they had met with contractors to investigate causes and consider potential emergency repairs before the next council meeting. Staff also confirmed the park water is active, the park is open, trees have been cleaned up and demolition of the park and recreation building is fenced and expected to begin soon.
