The NICE Community School District Board of Education voted to ratify the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement after a brief closed session on Aug. 18, 2025. The board entered closed session at 5:57 p.m. under Section 8(c) of the Michigan Open Meetings Act for negotiation strategy and returned at 6:02 p.m., then took the ratification vote.
The motion to ratify was made by Scott Mann and supported by Derrick Magnuson. A roll-call vote recorded Jim Gray, John Grove, Crystal LaFreniere, Derrick Magnuson and Scott Mann as voting 'aye'; Chad Korpi recused himself from the negotiating process and did not participate in the vote. The minutes note the recusal was due to familial relations. The motion carried.
