Joint office outlines public accountability dashboard and data-governance work

Valerie Matthews said the office will build a public accountability dashboard that maps crime and resources and reports dispositions so residents can see where services and outcomes are available. "We call we're calling it a public accountability dashboard," she said, describing a model used in Baltimore that includes crime maps and disposition information.
Sandy Bromley, Division of Community Services, emphasized the need for written governance. "The IT steering committee has now officially, as of just this week, created a data governance committee to really get our own house in order," Bromley said, noting that some shared databases currently lack clear written ownership. Presenters said MPD has been a primary data source so far and that data-sharing agreements and MOUs are being developed with other agencies.
Speakers also noted technical work remains: aligning intergovernmental credentials for grant applications and deciding which entity will hold awarded funds. The presenters said they are engaging Innovate Memphis and Data Mid-South to avoid duplication and to build a governance structure that supports public dashboards.
