The Milton-Freewater Unified SD 7 board on Tuesday accepted six community donations and voted to accept two grants, including a $32,000 contribution aimed at replacing or purchasing new band instruments.
Superintendent Doug told trustees the district had secured the larger gift from the Milton Freewater Area Foundation and a separate $1,500 donation for outdoor tables at MacKay. "They have, after these 2 donations, donated $32,000 for the band grama for new instruments," he said. A board member moved to accept the grants and the motion passed by voice vote.
Board members also acknowledged multiple smaller gifts to athletics and fine arts programs from local donors, which Doug listed in the meeting: support for the band program, boys basketball, central wrestling and cross country. The board did not attach any special conditions to the grants during the motion; staff said purchase orders and vendor quotes would follow in accordance with district procurement rules.
The board recorded the approval as part of action item 7.1; the motion to accept the grants was moved and seconded on the record and the chair called the voice vote.
