2-1-1 proclaimed in Mission Viejo; county calls top 40,000 per month, housing is top need

Deli Van Campen, representing 2-1-1, said the service connects callers to local resources and is widely available across the country. "211 is the number to call for social services," Van Campen said, distinguishing it from emergency 911. She reported Orange County's 2-1-1 center receives over 40,000 calls each month; housing-related requests account for roughly 52% of those calls, with food needs listed as the second-largest category.
Van Campen asked council members and residents to refer community members in need to 2-1-1 so callers can be connected to local programs for housing search assistance, rental or mortgage help and emergency shelter. The mayor thanked the speaker and asked for a photo to document the proclamation.
