Council considered old business item 23, a follow‑up to a prior salary schedule change that reclassified six job classifications as non‑exempt, affecting 13 employees across the Library & Cultural Services and Recreation & Community Services departments. HR Manager Monique Getz told the council the change altered paid time‑off accrual and proposed a one‑time grant of floating holiday hours to offset the reduction for 2025. "We're requesting that the council approve 12 full time employees to receive 40 hours of paid floating holiday leave and 1 part time employee to receive 30 hours of floating holiday leave," Getz said, and noted the hours would be credited Jan. 4, 2025 and must be used by Dec. 31, 2025.
Getz said floating holiday hours do not carry over and are not paid out at separation, which reduces the city's unfunded liability relative to other leave types. Councilmember Wendy Bucknam moved and Councilmember Brian Goodell seconded the recommendation; the council approved the item unanimously. Payroll will credit the hours on Jan. 4, 2025 and staff will track any remaining balances as forfeited at year‑end.
