Rodney Oberle, president of Ribs Rides Rock and Roll, spoke during public comment to describe the festival's history, volunteer network and community benefits and to request a street-closing permit for the upcoming event. Oberle said the festival has roots in a harvest celebration roughly 90 years ago and noted scholarship and charitable giving tied to the event: "We donate 4,000 to the food pantry," he said, and described scholarships for Vermillion High School students heading to vocational training.
Oberle outlined logistics the event committee has planned, including moving the farmers market to the south end of Market Street on Saturday morning, adding a Pinewood Derby for scouts, and scheduling DJ Marcus downtown at 10:00 p.m. to attract students after a USD football game. He thanked local sponsors and volunteers and encouraged residents to join the committee or volunteer for clean-up and other tasks.
