Aaron Davis, who identified himself by name in the announcement, said the city will replace the artificial turf on Field Number 1 at Mebane Community Park to maintain safety and playability for users. "Replacing the turf on Field Number 1 will help ensure the field continues to meet important safety and playability standards for the thousands of athletes, students, and community members who use it each year," he said.
The project is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 10, with completion anticipated by mid- to late September, weather and site conditions permitting. Davis outlined three contractor tasks: test the field's drainage system, inspect the shock pad beneath the turf, and replace the artificial turf and install new infill. Work hours will generally be between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. during the construction period.
The announcement said Field Number 1 will be closed to the public while work is underway and contractor staging will be in the overflow grass parking lot near the tree line. The city asked park visitors to follow posted signage, remain outside fenced construction areas and to notify recreation and parks staff or authorities if they see someone inside the construction zone. Officials said they expect to reopen Field Number 1 this fall.
