Vermillion hires Banner Associates for $25,500 well-field study to assess aquifer and future supply

The City of Vermillion awarded Banner Associates a contract, not to exceed $25,500, to perform a well-field study examining the Lower Vermillion–Missouri aquifer and the city's five production wells. Shane told the council the study will assess existing infrastructure, evaluate source options and alternatives, and produce recommendations—possibly including a collector well design that would simplify treatment by drawing more consistently from one area of the aquifer.
"We do annually rehab one of five; those wells range in age from 1972 all the way up to 2001," Shane said. He added the city holds a future water-rights permit that is updated in seven-year periods and is next up for renewal in 2029; the study will help determine whether the city should increase its permitted water use. The council asked about procurement and why Banner was selected; staff responded that Banner's history designing the water and wastewater treatment plants gave institutional knowledge and that the study had been budgeted in the water department. The contract was moved, seconded, and approved by voice vote.
