Vermillion council signs onto regional Safe Streets for All action plan

The Vermillion City Council voted to sign a resolution expressing support for the Safe Streets for All comprehensive action plan for the region. City staff explained that if adopted locally, the action plan would be incorporated into the city's 2012 transportation plan and the 2018 bicycle master plan and could strengthen future federal grant applications.
"Staff recommends the city council sign the resolution stating that the city supports a Safe Streets for All comprehensive action plan and that the city will work towards the reduction of traffic fatalities and serious injury accidents," Jose said. Council members voiced support and the resolution was approved by voice vote.
City staff said the plan identifies four corridors relevant to Vermillion and will serve as additional guidance when the city evaluates future projects, such as improvements near the new elementary school on Dartmouth. No implementation commitments beyond incorporating the plan into project planning were specified at the meeting.
