Community education says summer 2024 served more than 5,000 scholars; staff report no KidStop waitlist

Community education staff presented a recap of the district's summer 2024 programming. Brian Severson Hall, executive director of community engagement, said the district served "over 5,000 scholars this summer" across 14 buildings and shared staffing and program highlights including credit recovery, Camp Rocks and enrichment camps.
“...we achieved those for over 5,000 scholars this summer,” Brian Severson Hall said. Carrie Sawyer and other program leads described logistics for operating across buildings while many sites are under construction; Christy Johnson said KidStop operated without a waitlist this year, and Melissa Karstens reported 2,021 campers at a primary enrichment site and 882 Camp Rocks attendees. Staff also reported 732 credits earned through credit recovery during the summer.
Board members thanked staff for the scale of operations and asked about adult programming and specific sport offerings such as pickleball; staff said municipalities often provide adult pickleball and the district offers youth samples and exploratory opportunities. Presenters noted partnerships with community organizations and that programming choices aimed to meet a range of family needs.
