Six elementary schools set for media‑center and makerspace remodels in year‑one work

Lisonbee explained firewall constraints in many buildings that limit corridor openings into media centers, so designers planned internal openings between media centers and makerspaces, added technology (monitors, NanoWall systems) and flexible furniture to create 'learning on display' without expensive firewall work. She noted differences among schools — Fernbrook's layout is a mirror of others and Oakview opted for a central circulation desk — and emphasized mobile stacks, soft seating and flexible small‑group rooms to support multiple programming models.
Board members asked about implementation details and student/staff participation during design. Lisonbee said each core planning group included students and staff, citing '5 to 6 students' involved in early planning for each major project, and that design development has moved to detailed questions like countertop heights and equipment locations.
