Board hears design‑development update for Maple Grove Senior High renovation

The Osseo Area Schools board heard a design‑development presentation for the Maple Grove Senior High renovation on July 23, 2024. John Morstead introduced Wold Architects' Lanae, who said the project will use the existing Maple Grove site and include major additions and renovations to increase usable space.

“Again, we are utilizing the existing Maple Grove Senior High site,” Lanae said, and described phased construction that will allow the site to remain in use during work. She cited approximately 34,000 square feet of building renovation tied to the project and showed diagrams for a new cafeteria commons, renovated locker rooms and an expanded career and technical education wing. The presentation noted a referendum budget figure of about $56,000,000 for the total Building a Better Future program and a $32,000,000 partnership under LTFM funding for the Maple Grove scope.

Wold said the project schedule is in contract documents now, with a plan to bid in December 2024 and construction activity rolling into 2025–2027; full occupancy is targeted for fall 2027. The design includes a new bus loop and roughly 114 additional parking stalls, and the work will be phased across multiple summer breaks to limit disruption. Board members asked about current enrollment and capacity; presenters said Maple Grove is operating well over previous capacity and that the planned capacity bump and flexible learning spaces aim to address crowding.

The board did not vote on the Maple Grove project at the meeting; the presentation was informational and staff indicated more detailed phasing and bidding schedules will be provided as the project reaches procurement milestones.
