Siren test reveals gaps; city urges residents to sign up for alert system

City staff reported results from a post‑meeting siren test. The cemetery siren suffered an electrical issue and sounded only three times, while the fire‑hall siren’s air tank allowed a loud signal for roughly 30 seconds before the sound diminished. Two north‑side sirens operated as expected.
"If there's a power outage, they will not work," staff advised and urged residents to sign up for the county alerting platform, Sysco Ready, noting that the sirens are supplemental to the digital alert system. Staff said they are investigating fixes and that some repairs will be more expensive and may require later council consideration.
Staff also reported on the Greenway Stay cleanup event, where participation rose to 80 households and roughly 492 cubic yards of green waste were collected; volunteers included AmeriCorps and Chico State students.
