Board approves ABA and mental-health provider contracts; trustees press for outcome data

The board considered and approved several contracts and MOUs for behavioral intervention and mental-health services, and trustees used the discussion to press staff on how the district measures quality and outcomes.
On item 12 the board approved a contract with an ABA provider to support students with exceptional needs. Trustee Dr. Luis Guzman asked, "How do we know they're providing quality services to students?" and sought clarity on whether the district receives outcome data beyond compliance with IEP requirements. Special-education staff and the assistant superintendent said case managers review goals in students' IEPs, track progress, and may replace individual agency providers if services are not a good fit for a student.
Item 21, a memorandum of understanding with 5 Acres for mental-health services, drew questions about closing the loop on referrals and whether the district collects family feedback; staff said case managers follow up and families can raise complaints to district administrators, which inform renewal decisions.
Related consent items (31 and 33) approving additional behavioral- and family-services contracts were approved by unanimous vote. Trustees asked staff to prepare a board memo describing monitoring processes and possible survey options for family satisfaction so the board can assess provider effectiveness.
