City requires Coach Safely training and background checks for Clay coaches

The mayor said Clay Youth Sports will require coaches to take a free course called Coach Safely that covers concussion recognition, hydration and other safety topics. "Coaches will be, required, to take this this free course called, Coach Safely that will help them and train them to know some of the physical issues that could come up when kids play sports," the mayor said.
Program representatives also said coaches currently undergo background checks through the Alabama Soccer Association and SafeSport where applicable. The city will post volunteer applications and require background checks before volunteers serve as commissioners, assistants or coaches; parks & rec staff will manage scholarship and volunteer records when implemented.
