Jason Perry, who led the university’s legislative efforts this session, briefed trustees on the outcomes from the state legislature. He told the board there were 1,505 bills requested during the session and about 540 passed, and he highlighted several appropriations that directly benefit the university: a 2.5 percent compensation increase for faculty and staff funded from state pots for eligible positions; $1.8 million ongoing for the St. George medical school (adding to prior appropriations to total $7.3 million ongoing), $18.6 million for a Utah Health Artificial Intelligence population database called 'YouHive,' $15 million for an associated data center, and $5 million for cancer research.
Perry described the session as exceptionally successful for the university and said additional budget and bill impacts will be shared with trustees in future materials. Trustees and university leadership thanked legislative staff and legislators for their support and noted next steps for stewarding the new funds across campus priorities.
