Commission finds New Community Authority petition sufficient, schedules public hearing amid public concern

The Dayton City Commission on July 22 adopted Resolution No. 6944-26, finding a petition to establish a city-wide New Community Authority (NCA) sufficient under Ohio Revised Code Section 349.03, and Resolution No. 6945-26, finding consents to add parcels to the NCA district sufficient. Both resolutions were adopted on first reading by 5-0 roll call votes and authorize notice and scheduling of a public hearing.
During public comment and later in Mayor Turner-Sloss’s remarks, residents including Alec Johnson, Zakiya Sankara-Jabar and Rodney Stark pressed for more information about governance, transparency, financial accountability and neighborhood impacts. The Mayor said the Commission will appoint the Authority’s governing board and that Dayton will develop an NCA approach tailored to local needs; she also said staff will provide additional information before the July 29 public hearing referenced in the meeting.
