The Silver Creek Township board voted to delay for two weeks a decision on whether to accept responsibility for Xcel-owned emergency sirens, citing questions about long-term costs, liability and how the township would receive nuclear-plant emergency notifications in the future. Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved for the extension; Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen seconded and the motion carried 3-1.
Board members and attendees raised concerns about maintenance and replacement costs, potential tax increases, and whether county activation and third-party maintenance services would remain available if the township took ownership. The board said it will consult surrounding townships before making a final decision.
