Residents urge alternatives to Pledge and submit letter supporting anti-ICE resolution

During the Jan. 26 public comment period, Diantha Weilepp discussed the history of the Pledge of Allegiance and suggested that reciting the Preamble to the United States Constitution would be more appropriate for council meetings. Several residents also spoke in favor of a proposed resolution opposing ICE operations inside city limits; Clerk/Treasurer David Johnson read a letter from Sandra and Curt Harris endorsing that position.
Speakers included Jackson Blalock, Lunden Espinosa Kennedy, and Ally Bruser in addition to Weilepp and Katie O'Neil; their comments focused on legal protections under Washington State law and local concerns about immigration enforcement. The council thanked residents for participating and acknowledged receipt of the correspondence.
