Parents raise after‑school safety concerns; Classical Academy students praise school choice

At the start of public comment a parent, represented by an interpreter, described multiple incidents in an after‑school YMCA program that led to her daughter being found near the flagpole and later suspended from the program. The parent provided dates (09/26/2025 and 11/17/2025), said she requested video evidence and did not receive it, and said her daughter, a transitional kindergarten student, was treated as if she could meet older behavior expectations. "On 09/26/2025, the program notified me that my daughter had left the school and that she was silent in front of the school by the flagpole... I asked the director to show me the videos to find out how long my daughter had been in danger for, and I never received a response," the parent said.
Trustees thanked the parent and said district staff (Dr. Ibarra and Mr. McGuire) would follow up. Later in the public comment period Wendy Moen, principal of The Classical Academy, and student Zoe Tran Wofford praised the flexible learning environment and thanked the board for supporting school choice. "TCA provides me with an excellent education... I am grateful to attend a school like the Classical Academy that provides me with a flexible learning environment," Zoe said. The board acknowledged both concerns and compliments and noted staff would investigate the YMCA incidents and follow up with the family.
