Escondido Union reports gains on 2025 California School Dashboard; district spotlights three schools

The presentation explained dashboard mechanics (status and growth), noted the first year of color reporting for science, and reviewed subgroup performance. Sorensen said chronic absenteeism declined to 22.3%, down 4 percentage points, and suspension rates improved sufficiently to move from yellow to green. She also highlighted that some historically low-performing student groups gained performance color, while long-term English learners remain a concern.
District staff and principals credited coherent instructional focus, professional learning communities, expanded universal-access time for intervention or enrichment, and consistent classroom visits and feedback for the gains. "Every single week, it's check marks for every single teacher," a principal told the board as an example of school-level practices. Trustees asked about supports for English learners; staff described summer AVID Emerge training and upcoming EmpowerED sessions aimed at tier 1 strategies and English‑learner progress.
