Annie Marshall, Michael Ponce and Donna Lopez were sworn into their city offices at the July 7 Avalon City Council meeting when the city clerk administered the oath of office and certificates of election were presented.
The council first adopted a resolution reciting the facts of the June 2, 2026 statewide direct primary and municipal election and declaring those results before proceeding with the swearing-in. The clerk led each new official through the oath; Marshall repeated, "I, Annie Marshall, do solemnly affirm" as the clerk administered the oath.
Following the oath, the council presented proclamations honoring former council member Mary Schickling for her four years of service and Tim Winslow for his long record of civic engagement and business leadership. Mary Schickling accepted the recognition and thanked the community and staff for the opportunity to serve.
The seating of the newly elected officials was followed by regular department reports and a series of agenda items, including approvals of procurement and contract actions that will guide upcoming capital work on the island.
