The county estimated the cost of restoring one step for all affected employees at approximately $197,200 and estimated the cost to move 42 corrections officers up one step at about $63,100. Commissioners agreed to use available surplus funds (about $276,403) to cover both restorations and to leave roughly $16,000 available to allocate to the county auditor and the district attorney’s unclassified staff.
Commissioner Robertson made the recommendation; the motion was seconded and the court voted in favor. The court characterized these restorations as recurring costs that will be budgeted going forward and directed staff to record them in the FY2027 budget documents.
The action was presented as a way to address minimal increases or step losses across multiple county offices after a recent salary study.
