Purcellville adopts ordinance adding Virginia erosion and stormwater management program to town code

Council unanimously adopted ordinance 26‑04‑02 at the April 28 meeting to add chapter 87 — Virginia Erosion and Stormwater Management Program (VESMP) language — to the town code. Town attorney Robert Spruill said the code addition is administrative: it “closes the loop” on a previously ratified memorandum of agreement with the county and gives the county authority to investigate and enforce the VESMP requirements inside town boundaries.
Spruill noted that no one spoke in opposition during the public hearing and recommended adoption. Council moved to suspend the rules to act the same night as the public hearing, and then voted to adopt the ordinance by voice vote.
