Council questions Parks & Recreation budget as expenses outpace program income

One councilor noted program expenses of roughly $120,000 versus program income under $50,000 and urged staff to look for sponsorships, vendor fees, or modest participant charges to help narrow the gap without undermining community access.
Parks and Recreation staff said the division is a subfund of the general fund and that many events provide community benefits that make the program less likely to be self-sustaining. Staff committed to revisiting sponsorship packages and performing market comparisons for similar events to identify revenue opportunities ahead of the 2027 events season. "We can definitely do a little bit deeper dive for our sponsorship package for 20 27 events," the parks lead said.
