Canons volunteer says she secured $250K gift for Fireman's Field; urges council to acknowledge donors

Johnson said the Canons’ March 12 press release documents that the gift was obtained through her efforts with assistance from her daughter, and she objected to recent statements by some elected officials that suggested others had secured the donation.
"For anyone here to claim or redirect credit to others is deliberately misleading, false, and erodes public trust," Johnson said. She asked the council to acknowledge the documented facts, thank EE Reed and the Canons, and avoid using the donation for political points. Multiple council members later apologized publicly to Johnson during council comments and said they appreciated her work and the donation.
