Augusta commissioners voted to approve an existing-location retail beer-and-wine package license for 3333 Mike Padgett Highway after staff read the application and the applicant and an objector spoke.
Planning staff read application Alcohol #26-36 for purchase by Himadri Investments 2626 LLC, applicant Anil Kasturi. Objector Brian Green said he was not contesting the applicant's qualifications but urged the commission to pause the proliferation of package stores in Richmond County. "We just have a slew of retail liquor stores... I just want us to start taking another approach to that," Green said.
Mayor Pro Tem Wayne Gilfill framed the license as a gas station asking to resume an existing use limited to beer and wine, and moved to approve the license. The motion carried unanimously with no recorded opposing vote.
