The Planning Commission approved Aug. 14 a site-plan amendment for Jim's Family Restaurant at 728 Park Avenue to enclose a service area and add a walk-in freezer, and required that the restaurant's dumpster screening be brought back into compliance with city code.
Tim (staff) described the modest exterior changes — three courses of CMU block with EIFS to match existing materials and a single-slope metal roof over the service area — and said staff is satisfied the changes match the building and meet current code. He noted some block work had already been started on site.
Acting manager Eva Sivananakis said the restaurant needs the larger walk-in cooler to support its operations and that the enclosure space will be roofed and the entrance to the walk-in placed from inside the building. "We are just graciously loved by Riverton, and we appreciate everything that people have done for us," Sivananakis said while describing the expansion as necessary to serve the community.
Multiple commissioners urged that the restaurant's dumpster area be properly enclosed and gated to better match the building's appearance. Commissioner Mathison moved to approve PLC-2058013 with conditions 1–2 and an added condition requiring the dumpster screening be brought up to code; Commissioner Knudson seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
