Commission committee backs reverting county energy code to 2018 version to comply with state law

John Zena, director of Planning and Development, told commissioners the change affects building-envelope standards and certain equipment specifications and that the 2021 changes were not a wholesale rewrite but included more restrictive measures. "So all we're doing with this item is going back from the 2021 version to the 2018 version with the same local amendments that we have had in place since 2021, in order to be compliant with state law," Zena said.
Commissioners raised technical questions and asked staff to bring the building official to future readings for more detail. The committee recorded six "aye" votes and forwarded the ordinance with a favorable recommendation; the item will proceed to the commission for subsequent readings.
