Mahwah Township Council adopted Ordinance No. 2103 on second reading at its July 20, 2026 combined work session and public meeting, updating Chapter 9 of the township code to ban electric/motorized bicycles, mopeds, ATVs and motorcycles in parks and park walking areas.
Township Attorney's Associate Sue Sharpe noted a correction to the ordinance title (to include the word "Scooter") which Council President Robert M. Ferguson re-read into the record before the vote. The ordinance passed on a unanimous roll-call (Ariemma, Donigian, Ervin, May, Paz, Wong, Ferguson).
The ordinance also clarifies permitted uses for courts and goals. The council held a brief public comment period immediately before the vote; residents were allowed a short exchange but no amendment to the text was recorded at the meeting. The Municipal Clerk is authorized to advertise adoption by title, as required by law.
